How to repair concrete floors in blast chillers, FREEZERS & COLD STORES

CONCRETE REPAIR METHODS FOR COLD AND SUB-ZERO TEMPERATURES TIPS, TECHNIQUES AND MATERIALS

For repairs to concrete slabs and floors in refridgerated warehouses, cold stores, industrial freezers and blast chiller facilities at temperatures down to -25 degrees C

Damage to a concrete floor slab in a freezer store

METHOD

  • Saw cut around the perimeter of the damaged area where possible.
  • Remove the defective concrete taking care not to damage the insulating layer. Replace insulation where necessary.
  • Place reinforcing mesh in excavated area leaving a space of 50mm below it.
  • Mix and compact the repair concrete.
  • Finish off level with the traffic surface.
  • When initially set cover with an insulating sheet or frost blanket.

CONCRETE REPAIR MORTARS:

Febset 45 - a non-shrink, modified cementitious powder mixed with water to repair damage at depths from 20mm to 100mm, and can be mixed with aggregate in accordance with the data sheet for depths greater than 100mm. Achieves high early compressive strength even at -20°C or below, minimising downtime and allowing traffic over the area after a short time period. No primer required.

Emaco T545 - rapid set, high early strength, modified cement-based repair mortar suitable for use at temperatures down to -20°C. For use at depths from 20mm to 75mm and 75mm to 150mm with the addition of clean 10mm aggregate. Non-shrink, allows fast turn around to get area back into operation after completion of the repair. No primer or additional bonding aids required.
